We started our urban Micogreens farm here in Halifax, because we’re on a mission to provide more people with accessible, affordable, and highly nutritious food options.
Our urban Microgreens farm is our passion, and we regularly eat from our crops.
Microgreens are great for many of us with busy lifestyles. We usually don't have extra time to prepare nutritious meals, but still desire to maintain a healthy diet.
For this reason, many of our customers have started using our Microgreens. They are able to quickly grab them, and add them to juice, salads, sandwiches, soups, and more.
Why Microgreens?
Microgreens are made from greens that have been harvested before they reach maturity, just seven to 14 days after germination.
The result is a much smaller green, typically between one to three inches tall, with a more intense flavour and highly concentrated nutrients. All of the vitamins and minerals you’d find naturally in the full-grown plant or herb is packed into these tiny Microgreens.
Adding just a small amount to salads, dips, or smoothies can instantly boost the nutritional value of any dish.
These tiny greens should not be confused with Sprouts. Sprouts involves sprouting seeds by soaking them in water to germinate.
Although uncommon, sprouts have a higher risk of carrying bacteria that can cause food-borne illness.
